And we're back! I wanted to get this out earlier, but alas, it has been a crazy week my friends. But then again, isn't every week a crazy week? (full disclosure: not sure what happened with Photoshop this time, but some of the pics are kinda blurry. C'est la vie, ya know?)
The Oscars is always my favorite place to see fashion (aside from the Met Gala, of course), and this year did not disappoint. I have been hoping since September that the combination of Downton Abbey, Little Women, and a return to the 20s will bring historical fiction and fashion back into the mainstream, and we are well on our way! There was lots of glitter, and lots of vintage silhouettes.
To put it simply, in the words of my friend Mary Pat, "oscar sunday is MY super bowl."
1. Brie Larson in Celine
I feel like if you tapped into my imagination, and used what you found to make a fabric, it would look something like this. A whole mood. The understated and streamlined nature of the sheath dress feels chic, but the cape, v-neck, and slit make it a little more playful and high-end.
For Your Closet
This jumpsuit captures the color palette of Brie's look, but reserving the jewels for some statement earrings makes it more everyday. A great choice for a brunch date or church.

2. Erin Lim in Kim Kassas
This is one of the prettiest colors on the planet, and I am in love with the way it's used in this gown. Delicate jewelry allows the eye to focus on the bodice, and it honestly kind of reminded me of DC Comics' Poison Ivy. One of my top three looks from the evening.
For Your Closet
Turning the high-end nature of red carpet fashion on its head, this outfit uses the same color scheme, but for a much more casual look. Faux velvet jeans, lettuce sleeves, and marble earrings still provide a similar ~ visual interest ~ and add layers of texture. Comfortable enough for class, but cute enough to turn heads.

3. Scarlett Johansson in Oscar de la Renta
I. Cannot. The fact that this gown exists is just too much for me. This is now tied with Zendaya at the 2016 Golden Globes for my favorite red carpet look. Even though the entire bodice is like a giant necklace, white gold keeps it at the right level of dramatic.
For Your Closet
This outfit really captures the monochromatic nature of Scarlett's gown, and having glittery accessories makes the glam aspect better for your day to day. You can play with different shoes and different accessories, and still come away with a clean look. Perfect for coffee shops or a nicer dinner.

4. Florence Pugh in Louis Vuitton
This is another look I cannot get over. The bold color takes center stage here, and minimal jewelry + pulled back hair really allows the dress to have its moment.
For Your Closet
Monochromatic looks are the most fun when they play with different textures. (Can y'all tell I'm a texture person?) Velvet, satin, and metallic items are girly and more unexpected when paired together. Adding a silver necklace and a red bag call back to Florence's necklace, but because the colors have darker tones, you won't look like a walking Christmas ad. A wonderful choice for a girls night out!

5. Saoirse Ronan in Gucci
A little bit edgy, a little bit classy. Every role Saoirse plays is a standout, so it seems fitting she would wear one of the most unexpected looks of the evening.
For Your Closet
Saoirse's outfit is so color-blocked that a tank and denim just makes sense. The satin dresses the outfit up a little, and even though it juxtaposes the sneakers, the black keeps the look cohesive. Thick jewelry makes this outfit modern. Class, coffee, shopping, this outfit is great for any occasion!

Thanks for checking this out! What should I do next? ;)
